As soon as Alyssa got in the car, she dug into her bag and handed me a piece of paper. For the past couple of weeks, she’s been getting Reading Certificates so I thought she reached another level in reading. When I flipped it over, I noticed right away, with just a single glance, that it is different. It is an Invitation to a 15-minute award ceremony. Alyssa made it to the Honor Roll List. I was so excited! The hard work she’s been investing on her reading and numbers is slowly paying off. And working the morning shift and being there at night to watch her study is a big help as well.
I can’t tell you how proud Alyssa is, too. First thing she thought of was telling her Ninang Lynne and Ninang Myla of the good news. She was so delighted that all she talked about on our short trip home was how she loves learning from her teacher Mrs Le. Even Rolly took her to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate last Saturday. It is all good… I am happy Alyssa got the taste of being on the Honor Roll List. It makes her thirsty for acknowledgement. As a result, I noticed that she’s on top of her school work and is a lot more excited about completing her assignments – without me pushing her. I just hope she continues with it as the only thing we can contribute to her success is our support.
