Excerpt From: Colleen, Hoover’s HOPELESS

“It’s killing me, baby,” he says, his voice much more calm and quiet. “It’s killing me because I don’t want you to go another day without knowing how I feel about you. And I’m not ready to tell you I’m in love with you, because I’m not. Not yet. But whatever this is I’m feeling—it’s so much more than just like. It’s so much more. And for the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure it out. I’ve been trying to figure out why there isn’t some other word to describe it. I want to tell you exactly how I feel but there isn’t a single goddamned word in the entire dictionary that can describe this point between liking you and loving you, but I need that word. I need it because I need you to hear me say it.”

“The word comes to me like it’s always been there, tucked away between like and love in the dictionary, right where it belongs. “Living,” I say.

The desperation in his eyes eases slightly, and he lets out a short, confused laugh. “What?” He shakes his head, trying to understand my response.

“Live. If you mix the letters up in the words like and love, you get live. You can use that word.”
He laughs again, but this time it’s a laugh of relief. He wraps his arms around me and he kisses me with nothing but a hell of a lot of relief. “I live you, Sky,” he says against my lips. “I live you so much.”

This weekend, I read two books back to back. The first one is Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines, which I thought is good. Only that it has a sequel and it still due to come out sometime in March. So, basically the story is unfinished. I might have to read the first book again just to get the flow going when the second one is out.

Next book that caught my interest in Amazon is written by Colleen Hoover. She is a new Contemporary Romance author for Young Adults who is known for her debut book Slammed. She claimed to have written it in one month. She was accused by an Amazon poster of manipulating Amazon website’s system thus obtaining fake 5 star review for her first book. That discouraged me to read the book adding to the fact that I am not into slam poetry. Despite of the controversies linked to this book, I read a lot of reviewers saying the story plot is unbelievably real.

When I came upon Hopeless as one of the highest rated books this month, I just had to read it. I was seriously blown away. The story is intense and the characters are strong. It is by far the most captivating book I have read this new year. It brought me feelings of anger, compassion, sympathy and love. It is written in the first person in present time just like most young adult contemporary romance novels I have read. The conversations are powerful and the introductions of each and every character are done smoothly. The story line is very real…

After reading the book in several hours, I searched for Colleen Hoover and that’s how I found out she is the same author of Slammed. Because of that, her first book is in my queue for “next book to read”. We will see if it will live p to its 5 star reviews.
